I'm so excited to invite you into our kitchen for a peek at how we manage meal times as a family of 8. Meal planning, grocery shopping, and the endless pile of dishes often feel like their own full-time job. But over the years, I’ve also realized that the kitchen is more than just a place to cook—it’s a place where we connect and teach, making sweet (and usually messy!) memories together.

One of our biggest goals as a family is to eat real, nourishing food while making mealtime something we do together! Getting the kids involved in the kitchen teaches them valuable life skills and helps them develop confidence, and we've discovered we have incredibly talented mini-chefs!

Today, I’m sharing three of our absolute favorite meals—ones that are simple, made with wholesome ingredients, and perfect for getting the whole crew involved.

šŸ² Red curry chicken – Our favorite cozy meal

This is hands-down our favorite go-to dinner. It's a flavorful and nutrient-packed dish that supports digestion and boosts immunity. With lean protein, anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric and ginger, and healthy fats from coconut milk, this meal nourishes everybody and is super customizable for each family member.

Here's what we love about it

  • Quick and easy—ready in about 30 minutes

  • Everyone can customize their own bowl with toppings like fresh lime, cilantro, or extra spice

How kids can help

  • Washing and peeling carrots or bell peppers

  • Measuring out spices (a great way to teach fractions!)

  • Stirring the sauce while it simmers

  • Washing and cooking the rice

Serve over rice, and just like that—you have a meal that feels a little fancy but is actually super simple!

Ā šŸŖ Homemade oatmeal cream pies – SO good!

These cookies are an absolute fav! They’re soft, chewy, and sandwiched with the most delicious vanilla filling. Baking together is one of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon, especially on chilly winter days when we’re all stuck inside.

What we love about It:

āœ”ļø Made with real butter, organic oats, and no weird preservatives

āœ”ļø A great way to teach kids basic baking skills (our oldest 3 boys made these independently!)

āœ”ļø Brings a little fun (and a lot of sugar) into the day

šŸž Homemade bread – a weekly tradition

There is nothingĀ like the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. It instantly makes the house feel warm and cozy, and the kids love being part of the process. We make the recipe below 1-2 times per week! It's the most delicious bread ever, perfectly topped with butter and jam, and wonderful for sandwiches!

what we love about it:

āœ”ļø Simple, real ingredients—organic flour, yeast, water, salt, and a little honey

āœ”ļø A hands-on way for kids to learn patience and process

āœ”ļøSeriously so much better than anything store-bought!

How the kids can help:

  • Kneading the dough (everyone loves helping with the dough!)

  • Watching it rise and learning how yeast works

  • Brushing the tops with butter after baking

I won’t lie—homemade bread takes a little time, but it’s soĀ worth it.

This is our very own recipe that we have perfected and make every week!

A quick note about buying beef in bulk

We are often asked about buying beef in bulk. Buying local beef in bulk is one of the best ways to feed a growing family with high-quality, nutrient-dense meat while saving money in the long run. Sourcing beef from a local farmer means you know exactly where your meat comes from, how the cattle were raised, and that you're supporting small, sustainable farms in your very own community. Plus, buying a quarter, half, or whole cow significantly lowers the cost per pound compared to grocery store prices. To get started, find a trusted local farm, ask about their processing options, and make sure you have enough freezer space. Many farms even offer customizable cuts, so you get exactly what works best for your family’s meals!
